It seems his dirt track racing career was starting to roll in 1940 with five successful outings on the Douglas in that year. However, WWII had started and shortly after this Alex joined the Royal Australian Air Force to begin a new love affair with flying.
And that was the last time his collection of Douglas motorcycles was ridden.
